Greek Orthodox community president Nicholas Poniris said this morning that a cut-down version of the festival would take place over on the 25th July 2020, the Darwin show weekend, and would be a great opportunity for Territorians to enjoy life again.

It means there will still be a Greek festival of some form for the 32nd year running.

However, there is a lot of work to do to ensure the event goes ahead.

The GleNTi usually draws 40,000 visitors to indulge in mountains of souvlaki, octopus and yiros, however, Mr Poniris said he expected there would be a lot less of everything at this year’s event.

“Today is the first of many meetings we’ll have in the next seven days because we only have a short window,” Mr Poniris said.

Only heard about it today from my barber, as I thought it was cancelled for this year. I’m definitely coming along and I’m bringing 2 others for their first Glenti. Well done to the Greek community of Darwin!!
